Overview โ
Welcome to Noctara Dots ๐
Noctara Dots is just my personal collection of Wayland configs. The main reason I put this together was simple: riceing your Linux desktop is supposed to be fun, not spending three hours at 2 AM trying to figure out which missing bracket broke your entire system.
It started as a small weekend project when I was messing around with Niri and Noctalia Shell. Before I knew it, I turned it into a full setupโwindow manager configs, terminal stuff, themes, keybinds, and random quality-of-life scripts I use every day.
Everything is tuned so the whole desktop actually matches. Your terminal, window borders, apps, and colors all use the same theme instead of looking like a random mashup of dotfiles.
Why I made this โ
When I first tried Niri with Noctalia, I thought it looked amazing, but I quickly realized having a pretty status bar doesn't mean you have a usable setup.
Since I was still learning window managers, I had to spend days figuring out:
- How to structure configs without making a total mess
- Keybinds and window rules that don't constantly break
- Making random apps actually follow my system dark mode
- Fixing random broken shell scripts
Breaking stuff was a good way to learn, but staring at black screens and error logs gets annoying fast. I made Noctara Dots to give people a clean base so you don't have to start from absolute zero.
TL;DR: Clone it, look at how it works, tweak whatever you want, and actually use your computer.
Make it yours โ
Linux is all about customizing stuff anyway, so I didn't lock anything down. Everything is split into separate files instead of one giant 2,000-line config file:
- Window Managers: Separated into their own folders
- Themes: Grouped by app so they're easy to find
- Scripts: Kept in a dedicated folder
- Docs: Short guides on how things link together
It's simple enough if you're new to this, but easy to strip apart if you want to rebuild it your own way.
Multiple Window Managers โ
I get bored easily and like switching things up, so this isn't locked to just one compositor. Whether you like the scrollable layout in Niri, the animations in Hyprland, or testing out MangoWM, the setup keeps the exact same theme and feel across all of them.
What this isn't โ
Just to be clear: I didn't invent any of this from scratch. This project relies on awesome open-source tools like Wayland, Noctalia Shell, and a bunch of CLI apps.
It's also definitely not a "perfect forever" setup. Linux tools change fast, so expect bugs to get fixed, random experiments, and updates whenever I tweak my setup.
The idea behind it โ
A desktop shouldn't just look cool, it should actually feel like yours.
Whether you're coding, studying, listening to music, or just opening a terminal to flex your neofetch, your setup should be comfortable to use.
Because honestly:
Your desktop deserves better life choices. โ๏ธ
Hope you like the setup! ๐
